Rolls Royce & CATL launch Tener grid-scale battery solution in the EU and UK

The Rolls-Royce Power Systems (RRPS) division and battery-making giant CATL have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to launch CATL’s new Tener product line in the European Union (EU) and the UK.

RRPS has started to offer Tener products as part of their mtu EnergyPack QG solution for large-scale energy storage in the UK and EU, primarily for grid operators. CATL says the two companies have worked together to integrate Tener products into EPC-turnkey projects with all-inclusive service maintenance.

Last year, Rolls-Royce and CATL signed a long-term supply agreement to collaborate on more than 10 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity. The two companies say they have already successfully delivered several projects in the EU using CATL’s EnerOne product line, with several others already under contract.

As grids decarbonise, they must be able to integrate intermittent renewable energy while simultaneously dealing with highs and lows of electricity demand. Battery solutions enable the management of these elements to balance grids. The British and Chinese companies say the Tener solution will allow their customers to perform the “latest available” grid and trading services. The two companies claim the Tener product is capable of maintaining zero degradation in the first five years of use.
