In Conversation: Fluence mulls manufacturing in Europe

While it may be cheaper and easier in China, battery manufacturing in Europe has its appeal. pv magazine ESS News caught up with Fluence at the last week’s Smarter E in Munich to discuss its expansion plans.

Fluence, one of the world’s leading battery energy storage integrators, is looking to expand its manufacturing capacities beyond Vietnam and the US. Europe is on the cards as the company’s next manufacturing hub as it seeks to expand its footprint in the thriving market and cater to region-specific needs.

“We are looking to establish manufacturing in Europe and considering our options, but a final decision has not been made,” Paul McCusker, Fluence President EMEA, says.

This way Fluence will be even better positioned to serve regional delivery and support customers with the rapid deployment of storage across Europe.

When it comes to product offering, flexibility is a key value for Fluence.

“Business cases for grid connected battery storage are evolving and flexibility to maximise profits in merchant markets is key. Fluence is continuously innovating to provide our customers with the right products and commercial solutions to capture these opportunities,” McCusker says.

“We are focused on offering a flexible product platform to optimise for design, density and operational requirements and we look forward to long term partnerships with our customers,” McCusker adds.
