Ingrid Capacity partners with Locus Energy in Nordics
The partnership between Locus Energy, which has a presence in over 50 local communities in the Nordics, will make possible the construction of 13 new and large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across southern Sweden. This will add another 196 MW of flexible capacity to the national grid.
Ingrid Capacity now holds battery energy storage assets ranging between 8-20 MW. The flexible assets will provide ancillary services ensuring grid stability and reliability with intermittent renewable energy production. The company says the battery systems have been strategically located using advanced grid analytics so they are positioned where they will support local grids the most.
Ingrid Capacity was only founded in 2022 but soon after announced a partnership that represented Sweden’s largest battery energy storage investment, including 14 large-scale batteries totaling 211 MW. In September, Ingrid Capacity will have over 200 MW operational battery energy storage assets under management, 200 MW under construction, and a total development pipeline of 7+ GW.
Locus Energy is a portfolio company of the Article 9 fund SEB Nordic Energy and a long-term active owner and developer of local infrastructure for sustainable energy production in the Nordic region. The company is a partnership between SEB Asset Management AB and Locus Infra AB. SEB Nordic Energy is a fund that focuses on direct investments in renewable energy infrastructure assets in the Nordic region.
“We have in a short time taken a leading position in Sweden and are now entering several European countries. Energy systems across Europe are undergoing massive transformation, and the need for flexible assets is huge,” says Nicklas Bäcker, CSO of Ingrid Capacity. “We see this as a win-win-win situation. By providing value to the grids and supporting the electrification of society, we are building a sustainable business.”
