Show organizer Renmad set to recognize Italy’s energy storage pioneers

Born in Spain and organized all over the world, the Renmad events are coming to Italy. The Renmad Storage Italia 2025 show will be held in Rome on April 2 and 3, 2025. 

pv magazine Italia interviewed the organizer of the event, Elena Spinelli, of ATA Insights, and ATA’s marketing manager Araceli Giner Arroyo.

“The conference agenda is rich and varied in topics and will offer a comprehensive overview to address the development, financing, and optimization of utility-scale storage projects, adapting them to the challenges and opportunities of the Italian market,” said the ATA representatives.

Topics under discussion will include energy storage project development and regulation and using a comprehensive approach to bring projects to ready-to-build status, including regulatory analysis of eligible areas and simplification of the bureaucratic process. There will also be a focus on Italian auctions, in particular the capacity market used to ensure Italy’s grid meets demand and the planned “MACSE” energy storage procurement exercise.

Another hot topic will be the design optimization of advanced energy storage technology including flow batteries, hydrogen, and pumped hydro. Strategies to make such projects financially sustainable and attract investment, including guarantees and insurance tools, will also be highlighted.

“There will be a comparison between different storage technologies and alternative solutions, a focus on LDES [long-duration energy storage] technologies for long-term storage and the exploration of hybrid systems and coupling with renewables such as agrivoltaics,” said the ATA representatives. “In the various panels, case studies from advanced markets will be presented to apply best practices in Italy and attention will also be paid to the topic of optimizing the energy management system to maximize ROI [return-on-investment] … as well as the operation and customization of bidding systems.”

Awards

The event will bring the first Renmad Storage Italia Awards, a recognition of the most significant successes in the renewable energy storage sector.

The Storage Integrator of the Year and the Energy Storage Personality of the Year will be recognized. The first category rewards the company or installer that has successfully implemented advanced energy storage solutions in the grid or in specific projects, improving their overall efficiency. “This is an award for battery integrators who are doing an extraordinary job in the energy storage market,” said Spinelli and Arroyo.

The second award recognizes the individual who has made a significant contribution to the development of the energy storage industry since April 2024. “The award recognizes leaders who have inspired change, driven innovation, and contributed significantly to the advancement of this technology in the industry,” said the ATA representatives. “The winner will be a figure known for their influence, vision, and leadership, who has made a significant impact on the evolution of energy storage.”

Anyone can apply for the awards, for themselves or another person or company, by filling out the form on the Renmad website. Ten finalists will be selected to be voted on by a jury until the day of the ceremony.
