Indian hydroelectric company SJVN is tendering for two or three standalone BESS, with a total scale of 375 MW/1.5 GWh, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The hydro company is offering 20-year battery energy storage purchase agreements to the successful bidders in a reverse auction which will establish prices for the electricity supplied by the projects. The sites will be eligible for central government viability gap funding, which is provided to help infrastructure projects be financially viable.

Successful bidders in the tender will build, own, and operate the sites, whose electricity will be sold on by SJVN to state utility the Uttar Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd (UPPCL).

Tender documents indicate the four-hour-storage BESS projects must be either 125 MW/500 MWh or 187.5 MW/750 MWh in scale.

Identification of BESS-suitable sites will be the responsibility of SJVN and will be allocated on a lease and right-of-use basis in agreement with UPPCL.
