Estonian renewable energy company Freen OÜ has launched a 10 kWh sodium-ion home energy storage solution, designed to integrate seamlessly with both solar panels and small wind turbines.

Freen says that its sodium-ion batteries are non-toxic, non-flammable, and highly stable, ensuring safety for residential use. They are designed to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of inverters from leading manufacturers, including SMA, Sungrow, Growatt, Deye, GoodWe and many more.

The residential energy storage system comes with a rated voltage of 48V, and an operating voltage range from 40V to 60V. It achieves a depth of discharge of 90%. Its maximum charge/discharge rate is 210A. The battery delivers more 4,000 charge-discharge cycles.

The system comes with an integrated battery management system (BMS), ensuring consistent energy supply and independence, even during grid outages. It comes with a five-year warranty and features IP20-rated protection.

Its operating temperature range is from -20℃ to 60℃. In addition to its strong environmental credentials, sodium-ion battery technology is known for its strong performance in cold environments. According to Freen, its home battery retains even up to 90% capacity at -20℃.

The battery measures 415 x 700 x 263 mm and weighs 78 kilograms.

“While the specifications above outline the base parameters, we remain flexible in adapting the system accordingly. In this early stage of introducing the product to the market, we are engaging with potential buyers to tailor our solutions to their specific needs,” a company’s spokesperson tells ESS News.

According to the spokesperson, the price for one set – a 10 kWh home battery system – stands at around EUR 3,000. Freen OÜ packs the battery for shipment, prepares all the documentation, and can ship it wherever needed. The rest, including transportation, taxes, insurance, should be arranged by the buyer, said the spokesperson.

The Freen Home Energy Storage System is designed to work seamlessly with the company’s signature small wind turbines. Freen is renowned for its Darrieus-type vertical small wind turbines, featuring soft blade designs with near-frictionless architecture, low noise emissions, and strong performance.

Together, Freen wind turbines and sodium-ion batteries create an off-grid solution, ideal for remote locations or areas with unreliable power supply.

Freen’s production facility in Estonia is capable of producing over 4,000 small wind turbines per year.
