Yap State Public Service Corp. has kicked off a tender for the supply and delivery of BESS and solar minigrids to Yap Island, in the FSM.

The contractor selected will sign an agreement with the utility, which is administering the tender, to supply equipment for two BESS-backed solar minigrids on the island. The solar arrays will have a combined generation capacity of 79 kW – small in global terms but enough to have a significant impact on a 100 km2 island with a population of less than 11,400, at the last count.

Bidders are requested to submit details of their technical and financial offers in compliance with technical specifications laid out in the tender document, as well as statements of warranty for the PV equipment. Bids must be received by post by Jan. 28, 2025.

International Renewable Energy Agency figures indicate the FSM had deployed 3 MW of solar capacity by the end of 2023.
