Dominican Republic gives go-ahead to major solar-plus-storage site
The Dominican Republic’s National Energy Commission (CNE) has signed a definitive concession contract with LCV Ecoener Solares Dominicana for the construction and operation of the Payita 2 photovoltaic park in Nagua, in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez.
A CNE statement said the project would have a nominal installed generation capacity of 49.98 “MWn” – determined by inverter capacity at the site – and 60.04 MWp, plus a 15 MW/60 MWh energy storage system.
Edward A. Veras Díaz, executive director of the CNE, and LCV Ecoener Solares Dominicana representative Carlos González Pelicot, participated in the signing ceremony.
The Caribbean nation recently announced the launch of the 80 MWp Sajoma solar park, the highest photovoltaic plant in the country, located in the central mountain range 490 m above sea level. That site is owned by Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina), a public-private energy company.
