India’s NNVN announces winners of 1 GWh standalone battery auction

Indigrid, Kintech Synergy, and HG Infra Engineering have emerged winners in NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s auction for 500 MW/ 1000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage capacity with viability gap funding support.

The Vidyut Vyapar Nigam power trading arm of Indian utility National Thermal Power Company (NTPC) has procured 500 MW/1000 GWh standalone battery energy storage capacity with viability gap funding support at an average price of INR 2.37 lakh ($2,824.46)/MW/month.

Indigrid secured 250 MW and Kintech Synergy 65 MW by quoting a winning price of INR 2.37 lakh/MW/month. HG Infra Engineering was allocated the remaning 185 MW at INR 2.38 lakh/MW/month.

The winners will install battery energy storage systems with the primary objective of making these available to NVVN for two charging/discharging cycles a day on an “on demand” basis.

NVVN will enter into a battery energy storage purchase agreement with the successful bidders to use the storage capacity to trade electricity on the power exchange, to sell direct to electricity distribution companies and commercial and industrial clients, and to provide grid stabilization services.
