Chilean 2.2 GWh battery enters environmental permitting
A lithium battery energy storage system (BESS) with 2,160 MWh of storage capacity has been proposed by the Chilean subsidiary of Zelestra Energy, as part of the Spanish company’s Ramaditas solar park.
Zelestra documentation indicates the $550 million, 420 MWp solar site, planned in the commune of Pozo Almonte in the province of Tamarugal in Chile’s Tarapacá region, would feature 626,880 670 Wp solar panels with solar tracking on one axis across an 820.46-hectare site.
The project, which has been submitted to the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment System, would inject electricity into Chile’s National Electric System via an 8.1 km, 220 kV high voltage power line and a new Ram1 substation on the Lagunas Puquios High Voltage Line, according to application documents.
